The festival season has ended and the aftermath of the festivities can be a real bad sight for sore eyes. Once the festival season is over your home becomes even more cluttered and messy than what it was before festivals. Don't you agree?

Post festivities cleaning
During festive seasons, your home speaks for your personality and you dress it up for the festive ambiance & make it look divine. But this divine place soon transforms into a cluttered space once the guests leave. The home which was once shining and sparkling is now grime and greasy. Post festivities all you want is to take some rest and revive yourself but the clutter and mess all around the house make you sick. The faster you will clean, the sooner you will be done. So here are some quick and easy tips to speed up your post festivities cleaning:

  • The first thing is, don't be hard on yourself. If can't do all of it at once, don't worry! Do it as you go.
  • You can't do it all alone, you shouldn't. Give some work to your husband and kids too. A nice way to teach your kids about cleanliness and how family members should cooperate each other.
  • Clean up the clutter by sorting the things and putting them in different bins or bags. You can arrange them or put them in a place later when you have some extra time in hands. This will clear up the surface and now you can dust and mop easily.
Post Festivities Cleaning
  • Keep all your cleaning supplies in a convenient area in a caddy for a quick access.
  • Using vacuum cleaner instead of a broom will speed up the cleaning process and you can get rid of all the dirt and grime quickly. Start from the top and work your way towards the bottom.
  • This post-festive ambiance is the most unpleasant part of such occasions as the leftover utensils, stains & dirty sink invites the creepy crawling cockroaches. To save from the cockroaches created havoc not only in the kitchen but all around the house, make it a point to always keep LAL HIT handy for such post-festive cleaning. #SayNoToFoodPoisoning

  • Use cleaning agents that are easy to work with and are multi-purpose too like hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, vinegar etc.
  • It is always a better idea to clean up the clutter or mess as soon as it happens.

Sofa Makeover And Some Tips

Happy Monday dear readers!! I am Excited to share my sofa makeover story with you all.
Regular readers of my blog are very well aware that I was sick of my ugly looking sofa, especially of its brindled cushions/seats and boring look. I was quite desperate to give it a quick makeover and after lots of head-scratching, I decided to get the covers stitched for its cushions as this was the cost effective and easy way for quick sofa makeover.

Couch Makeover

Let me show you how boring it was earlier. I didn't like the dark tone of its seat and back cushions though I liked its teak wood finish a lot. It was really hard for me to style the sofa even with the prettiest cushions. That's why sofa makeover was the need of the hour.

Couch Makeover

I went to the local market in search of the best fabric for my sofa. I wanted the fabric that fits my style and budget. I gravitate towards earthy/warm tones and that's why I chose gold honey colour for my sofa cushion covers and fabric I chose is poly chenille for its premium quality and elegant look.
The beautiful colour of the sofa cushion covers sets a perfect backdrop for throw pillows and knick-knacks placed on the coffee table.

Couch Makeover

How a small change can completely transform the look and feel of the place. If you are also looking for a quick sofa makeover, here are some tips for you:
  • If your budget is less then changing cushion covers can do the trick. Having cushions in different sizes adds the dimension but if the cushions are in same size then choose cushion covers in different colours & patterns to make it more of a statement. Though there is no particular rule to decorate your space. Create several looks and go with the one that works best for you.

Couch Makeover

  • If you are bored of the same look of your sofa then it's time to change the upholstery and in turn, it will change the look of your place. If you have a wooden sofa with removable cushions/seats then get the covers stitched for the cushions the way I did. There are myriad of colours to choose from and fabric comes in various varieties too like chenille, polyester microsuede, velvet, soft linen, jute, spandex and many others. You can get 2-3 sets of sofa cushion covers in different colours and fabrics and change them when you are bored of the same look or wish to give a quick makeover to your place.
Couch Makeover

  • Sometimes all you need is just a beautiful throw or a blanket to cover the seats of your sofa and it can totally transform the entire look of the place and let me ask, how much did you spend?
  • If the cushions of your sofa have become saggy and ruining the look of your living room then replace the stuffing to plump up your sofa.

Couch Makeover

  • With time, the wood loses its sheen and make the sofa look dull. If you have teak wood furniture then you relate to it very well. So after every 4-5 year, your wood furniture needs polishing and touch up. I too got all my furniture polished and added few more years to its life.

Couch Makeover

Don't forget to style the coffee table and side table. I placed green votives and a brass trinket box at the one end of the coffee table and a red Anthropologie inspired planter in a sabai grass basket on the other end to balance the look. On the side table, I added lots of green to make the place look lively and placed Buddha figurine that exudes serenity. I placed an orange colour vase behind Buddha for a cohesive look as my cushions are orange too.
Here is a complete look of my living room after the sofa makeover and I am totally in love with my sofa now. I hope you enjoyed reading about this sofa makeover and will take advantage of the tips I shared here.

Couch Makeover

See you all soon with some new post or a new makeover story.  Have a lovely week ahead!!

Urban Ladder For Urban Nest

When my husband and I were looking to buy an apartment few years back,
our biggest concern was the oversized furniture we own. Though I like my furniture to bits as it offers good storage option and looks aesthetically appealing but the only thing we were worried about was its bigger size. It could easily make the compact urban space look crowded and uncomfortable. We were fortunate enough to have found an apartment that could easily accommodate our bulky furniture without making our place look cramped.

But this was not the case with one of my friends in Mumbai. She bought an apartment which is really very compact. An urban space can be referred to as space-challenged place. And that's why I call it an Urban nest. You might find yourself struggling to fit everything you want around you, in a compact area. When my friend moved into her new house and was worried about getting the space done in a stylish and affordable way, she asked me to suggest some good furniture store. Days of furniture hunting, Plans of Getting it ready at home with a carpenter working round the clock seemed a daunting task to her as she is a working woman. Then we thought maybe we should try browsing online.  Scared of hits and misses, we weren't too sure till we stumbled upon Urban Ladder.

I had heard of Urban Ladder before- known for its furniture, offers a sustainable, stylish yet functional range of beautiful furniture. Having read their promise on product quality and design, we realised we don’t need to look anymore. Now a lot of people, as confused as my friend have come to me to find the best design solution from a trustable platform, hence this post! I thought it’d be best to take you through what made Urban Ladder stand out for both my friend and I!

We both were stunned to see the trendy designs and contemporary style of furniture on their website. After having look at few products we realized that the brand aims in making furniture that can transform space-challenged urban dwelling into an ideal home and that's what we were looking for. An elegant looking furniture that is specially designed for urban living that tucks into small spaces with ease. We were glad to know the fact that furniture is designed in-house by Urban Ladder and its design is so thoughtful that it can easily double up its purpose without compromising its style and aesthetics. We kept on looking the furniture in beautiful designs. My friend was quite happy as she had found the design she was looking for and that too in a material she was looking for but then she was worried about the functionality of the furniture. So we went on browsing their website looking for furniture with added functionality.

What we realized after looking at Urban Ladder's range of products that aesthetic beauty and functionality woven together in the most elegant way is the speciality of Urban Ladder. She wanted a versatile piece of furniture which multiplies the storage space effortlessly that too in a stylish way. Multifunctional designs are in demand these days as urban spaces are short on places to store stuff hence you need a furniture with a good amount of storage and that can serve various purposes at the same time. At this point, my friend was totally relaxed and had calmed down as she had found the most functional piece for her living room from Urban Ladder's wide range of products.

Few of my friends who already own the furniture from Urban Ladder had told me that furniture from Urban Ladder has transformed their house into a home. I told the same thing to my friend that she will definitely find her fantasy furniture at Urban Ladder. She liked a sofa designed to maximize space, can be turned into a bed and that too with ample storage underneath. It can be a perfect addition to her compact living room. Not to mention that sofas were available in different materials like fabric, wood, leather and in different design & style like L-shaped, loved seat, modular, divan and many more. Bingo!! she has finalised the sofa cum bed with storage in brown colour for her living room. We started looking for dining room furniture then.

She was particular about the design of the dining table set. She wanted a dining table that is designed especially for urban spaces that lends a contemporary look and takes up very less space. We checked out a wide range of dining tables from 8 seater, 6 seater to 2-3 seater set. Now she was not worried about the shape and material of the dining set as she knew now she can find one easily that suits her taste and design sensibilities. She was looking for something that fits in her compact dining room without making it look crowded. She was surprised to see the folding six seater dining table that was made of two flaps, one flap can be folded down to turn the dining table into 2-3 seater and the dining table can be tucked away by putting both the flaps down to make space in an apartment. So my friend fell in love with this dining table instantly and she chose teak wood finish as her apartment has warm
and earthy colour palette.

That's all she wanted to buy for her new apartment and she was quite happy and satisfied as this is what exactly she was looking for. What more can one ask for, the design & style that reflects your taste, additional functionality, and range of products to choose from that fits your budget. And after placing the order she was worried about the shipping and delivery of the furniture. That’s when we read some awesome customer reviews on their website. One such review said that “I am quite happy with my purchase. It got delivered in good condition without any breakage. People at Urban Ladder know that service is as important as their products. That's why they are always conscious of every detail of the process, from the time of ordering till your order reaches your home, and even afterwards". We both were quite relieved after reading that and were waiting impatiently for the furniture to delivered.

Not only my friend lots of my blog readers are quite happy about their experience with Urban Ladder. So if you are looking to give your home a beautiful makeover head over to Urban Ladder.
Happy Decorating folks!!

Get Home Ready For Festivities

The festival season has begun.
The first day of Chaitra month or Gudi Padwa marks the beginning of the new year according to lunar Hindu calendar, also known as Ugadi, Yugadi, Navreh, Cheti Chand and Samvatsar Padvo in other states. Each festival in India is primarily associated either with the transition of seasons or harvesting of crops and every celebration begins with house cleaning and decorating. How busy people may be but they take the time out to do all the cleaning before the commencement of the festivities. Why not! a clean home is a pivotal part of all the festivities.

Festive Decor

Now that Chaitra Navratri is just around the corner let's talk about some house cleaning and decorating. During this festive season let your surroundings speak about your personality. Here are some tips and tricks to get the home ready for festivals:

Festive Decor

Decluttering the place can make your home look spacious, clean, organized and full of positive energy. It is said that the things that are no longer in use and are broken or in a bad shape create a negative energy in and around the house. I agree with this statement wholeheartedly as hoarded junk not only takes up all the space but also make your home look cluttered and unorganized and this, in turn, affects your stress level.

Festive Decor

Get rid of the clutter and make free space to move around easily. Once decluttered your space now needs some serious cleaning. So put on the gloves and let's make your space shine and sparkle.

Cleanliness is godliness. I love to see every nook and corner of my home shining and sparkling. No cobwebs, no dust, no spots and stains, no stinky smell in washrooms/toilets, no grease on the cabinet doors and chimney and no cockroaches in the kitchen that's how a home must be kept.

Festive Decor

Cleaning the kitchen may seem the daunting task but I would suggest always start from the kitchen and from the right side of the stove and then go clockwise around the kitchen. Clean the stove and chimney in the last. This will ensure that you wouldn't be spreading dirt, grime and grease everywhere.
Kitchen sink contains even more bacteria than a toilet seat and I always make sure that I disinfect, clean with mild soap, hydrogen peroxide and vinegar and buff my stainless steel sink after each dish wash. For buffing take a few drops of mineral oil on a soft cloth and wipe the sink and tape to make them sparkle. This prevents the growth of mold and calcium buildup.
Now clean all the cabinet doors and handles using mild soap on a sponge and wipe them clean with a damp cloth. In the same way, you can clean all your kitchen appliances. Clean the stove and chimney in the last using detergent and scrubber.

Festive Decor

Take special care of bathrooms. It's better to wipe the floor, walls, faucet and shower after each shower to prevent the water stains and calcium buildup. If you can't do it everyday then try to do it once in a week. You can rub few drops of lemon oil on glass shower doors once or twice in a month to make it look clean and shiny all the time. Wash the shower curtains once in a month to remove mold and mildews. To clean the toilet bowl put a teaspoon full of a drink that contains citric acid (drinks that have tangy taste) in the bowl and leave it for few minutes and then flush .
For all the other rooms, start from the ceiling and work your way down. Remove all the cobwebs, clean fans and light fixtures using a damp cloth (make sure you have turned off the power), clean all the windows and doors, dust all the furniture, clean the glass surfaces using a microfiber cloth and in the last mop the floor. There you have it, a neat, clean and sparkling my kind of home.

After decluttering and cleaning the home, dress it up beautifully. Change the curtains, cushions and rug to give a completely new look to your home. If you wish to use old ones then give a nice wash and then use them.
Create a festive ambiance by placing some metal or wood figurines and surround them with fresh flowers, tealights/votives and candles to make the place look divine.

Festive Decor

Add greenery by bringing in some indoor plants and place them in a place where they sit most comfortably. Add festive cheer by drawing rangoli at the entrance and placing an uruli full of flowers floating in it. Put on the soft lights to create a warm and welcoming ambiance.

Festive Decor
